Free Time: What Is It Good For?

Fri Feb 23, 2007, 6:14 AM
This Coming Thursday will be the Three Month Anniversary of the day I got fired from Telepreformance... and I will be "celebrating" that day by going in to re-apply for my job. Hopefully, I will be able to get re-hired... because I rather liked my job, and it's pay was more than I was used to. If I can, then I'll be able to get a new Apartment because this one wont be here anymore.

Well... it will be, but I wont.

The Lease runs up on March 30 (so long as we give our notice 30 days beforehand). Since my roommate, ~VelvetMaiden, is going off to do things in a state far far away (things that I think will be a bad and induce sadness), I will be "forced" to move back in with ~MajorMoonie and his brother.

I use the term "forced" very, very lightly... as I do like both of them, and just being around them... but their apartment is... uh... ::knows ~MajorMoonie reads his Journals:: ...bad. It's really bad. That and, I know it's trouble on them to take me under their roof (as this will be the third time doing so)... and also, his brother isn't a big fan of mine. He doesn't hate me, per say, but...

If I could narrow down the one thing John and anyone else doesn't like about me, it's this: I talk to much. Either, I'm expressing an opinion that is disagreed with, or I feel the need to explain myself when I fear others will misunderstand me... or it's not even a need at this point, more like habit and reflex.

Shit, I'm doing it right now, aren't I?

Ah, well... the point of this post (or, at least the title) is supposed to be this: I have too much free time. I hate it. I'm bored... and while I would normally crawl up with a good game right now by the TV, the ones I'd like to play are all borrowed. San Andreas is at Moonie's and Disgeae 2 is at Draco's... There's Prince of Persia, but my Cube copy of Sands of Time is also borrowed out, and I'd like to start the Sands Trilogy from the beginning if I could (using my PS2 copy of Warrior Within, and you know why!)

Right now, I'm reinstalling The Sims 2, which I never did after I reinstalled my computer last month. My soon-to-be new roommates will likely be happy that I only have one log-on to my machine now (preemptively setting up this PC to be taken by ~MajorMoonie at some point in the "near" future), so they wont have to do anything special to play in our Neighborhoods (like use a password to log into the computer).

I think The Sims 2 and World of Warcraft might be the same size now...

I reserved Vice City Stories and SSX Blur last night... but I promise you that I will drop that reserve of SSX if I read a review that says it's "as good as On Tour" or otherwise not even meeting that bar. I enjoyed Tricky, and loved 3, but On Tour was a huge let-down... so I am not going right out to get Blur... I'm gunna wait a day or so to see what IGN thinks... which is still dangerous considering that they thought On Tour was good... so even then, I must be careful.

Luckily, Rockstar is in a different category (the category that Burnout used to be in). Each of their games has been progressively better... the ones I have played, anyway. I didn't play Manhunt, State of Emergency (1 or 2), or that Pong game... but the GTA's (and Bully too) have been progressively better... though I do count Liberty City Stories as a special case because it was Handheld first, and thus not going to hit the heights of San Andreas. I thought it was kickass for what it was... and I'm expecting better results from the Stories of Vice City.

OK... I'm up to Nightlife now, and I have more Journal to fill as I go for Open for Business and Pets too. Oh, hey, there we go... The Sims 2:

Pets was a let-down. I liked the Pets, but the werewolves sucked. I mean, my reaction to the expansion was "Pets, neat. Hope that means the next new Sim is a werewolf" followed shortly by "Wait, werewolves!? Score!" and it was reserved. Good as done.

Then I played it. Ugh. If you must have Pets, get it... otherwise it's the only expansion I would say (with little doubt) that you are free to skip. I mean, I may not like Vampires, but they had a mechanic to them, gameplay-wise, you know? Robots? Same deal, they played different. Aliens? It was a whole deal just to "unlock" them, and they expressed neat genetic coding and stuff. Zombies? Dead Sims come back to life. Very nice.

But Werewolves? Werewolves, my favorite of all supernatural critters? They're a hack, copy and paste rendition of the same exact mechanics for vampires, minus two hours. They get empowered at night instead of the day, and get hungry faster... and their new skin-tone is silly to boot. I'd rather my Sim go all wolfie and run off the lot with the action "On the Prowl" or something. Not every night, but one night a week or something... and they'd miss work, they'd leave their kids at home alone... and maybe, just maybe, they'd be able to show up on another Sim's lot as a wolfie NPC to bite them and there'd be interaction and relationship for it... I mean, seriously, it couldn't be that hard, right?

Now, forget the wolfies and their "mechanic" and let's check out the rest... little to no additional floors, walls, and items that aren't for pets... and then the pets themselves. I mean, the pets are good. Excellent even... but no new jobs for your Sims? What about paths to the Careers like Vet or Dog Catcher for Medical and Law, or something? Why do pets show up on lots in the community by themselves? What about new cars, or much of anything else? It's totally lacking and not worth the $35.

I mean, the game comes on two disks (unlike Open for Buisness). What was all that space used for? Probably pets and their interactions, but seriously... if it's not done, I don't want it in six months. I see what they were trying to do, but they didn't finish (in my opinion).

I'm gunna hold back at least a week or two to hear what people think of the next expansion. I don't want to be burned, again. EA keeps giving me years of "Holy shit, this is fun!" followed by "Holy shit, what were they thinking???" It's getting on my nerves. Be a company that makes great games or be a company that makes shitty games... don't pick and choose... but I've said this before.

Guh, just installing Open For Buisness now. One more Pack to go...

I was thinking, this week... I badly want an MMOGTA. I know, I know, it sounds nutz... but seriously... with as big as those city or states can be... I at least would like to log into a friend's game to either 1) help them complete missions, 2) be around in their world (probably driving a taxi), or just seeing who the cops will decide to chase... me or Moonie.

Moonie is a fucking psycho, BtW. There's this story about him stabbing a guy to death for three and a half hours, but I don't care to repeat it just now.

And lay off about the long Journals, OK? I write one, like, once a month... at best... seriously.

Where was I? Oh, yeah, no where... so... let's see... Oh, I got a Strike between Games of LARP. I can't play this weekend (though I still plan to show up). It's kind of bullshit, really. I mean, an ST oversteps his bounds, doing something he's not supposed to (giving me a Strike) without consulting the Head ST (which is currently Draco), and Draco gives him a Warning, but says I keep my Strike.

Makes no Sense to me...

I played WoW for about a month... I will probably go back to it someday when I have time and money... but for now, it's back-burner. There are too many games I would like to play this coming month, and I'm going to do my best to get a job, any job.

Awe, forget it. I'm tired of typing. I'm done.

See you in the Future,
Huntermun

P.S.: If you're wondering why I haven't put anything up in a long, long time, the reason is three-fold. I can't find my last drawing pad; I can't find the power cord for my scanner; and (lastly) I can't find my Wacom Tablet Pen. It was lost sometime after Christmas and before I got back from re-installing my computer... where along the line it got misplaced, I don't know...

P.P.S.: Now that I am just installing Pets, I also see that it's the only Expansion who's Instruction Booklet Cover is in Black & White. Shoddy all around.
