I am ashamed of what we appear to stand for.
But, recently, I've come across some good quotes that have made me rethink what it is that I stand for. I stand for the difference of opinion... the acknowledgment that you and anyone else can be wrong... or that you can just think different than others, and not be chastised for it. I believe in Free Speech, and Freedom of Religion (even if I don't practice it)... Freedom to pick your own sexuality, and whether to have of have not of that unborn child. These are just things that I believe. You have a high chance to believe different... and if you're a US Citizen, then I at least know for certain that you, of all nationalities, are entitled to your opinion.
Our government, as it stands, is no longer For The People, By The People... It's For the Corporations, By The Corporations... or For Those In Charge, Ignoring Those Who Are Not... For The Rich, Screw The Poor. These beliefs and these "people" all shame me. For U.S., they shame us... amongst ourselves, as well is in the presence of other nations.
Blame Republicans if you want (I know I do), but I also reserve the right to blame the Democrats too, or the Independents, or whoever else, on the whole. There might be any one person out there who stands for something different in our government, or anyone person out there who speaks up to be heard... but on the whole, our Republicans are Greedy people, and our Democrats are Spineless. Yes, I like John Edwards... yes, he's a Democrat... but even he cannot combat the spinelessness of his party. He alone, or I alone, or you alone, cannot make a difference the way the system is now...
We (that's the majority of US citizens), think the War in Iraq should come to an end. Most of the government agrees with that assessment as well. They voted as such. The Presidentwho's either seeing himself as a dictator and running the government as such... or is just a puppet for the corporations that run the government (depending on your view)is a jackass. He's an idiot. He doesn't care about you and me (unless, of course, you're of a wealthy class of citizen). He doesn't listen to us. He doesn't listen to U.S.
The man has about a 20% approval rating here in the U.S., and still he defies us. We The People are supposed to be in charge. Yes, the president is there to make the big calls, see the big picture... keep the U.S. on the right track... but that's not happening. He's hiring and keeping in power Yesmen, who usually don't even know how to do the job they've been assigned... he cares more about loyalty than competence.
It sickens me.
Bush got us hit on 9/11. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise. Some could say that none could have seen that coming. Some will say that Bushes' reaction of taking it to the "Axis of Evil" was a good idea, bad execution. Those people, in my humble opinion, are fooling themselves.
Clinton, for the last years (plural) of his term, got new briefings every single day. New Warnings. When he didn't know something, he asked questions. When someone handed him a memo of urgency, he took it as such. This is not, once again, me (being a Democrat, I guess, given the two choices) saying Dems are the better choice. No. This is just me saying that, as a president, Bush has screwed up royally. He got a memo that basically said, in it's header... that we were going to get attacked, and soon... before 9/11. He basically just shrugged and went on his marry way... a few days later, we lost two Zip Codes.
Each Tower was a Zip Code.
Then, of course, he attacks the wrong country, screws up Katrina, makes more terrorist, spends money we don't have, looses all our jobs to other countries... etc. etc. He's a Fuckup, and my Right to Free Speech let me say so.
...
The point of this Journal? This is me, in my everyday life. This is why this is a journal. Every day, I hear about us fighting this war that cannot be won. I heard about our government not listening to us. I hear (and see, since I live in S.C.) about us getting dumber and dumber kids coming out of our schools. I heard about how New Orleans is still fucked up (as I have a friend who lives there)... and I hear this shit about how we passed a Bill to End the war, and it got Vetoed. It was already said it would be Vetoed before it was passed. Bush said so. Did so.
Now, we backed down. We're funding the war, and not funding ourselves. I get paid $5.15 an hour, which is not enough to live on... and still, the Minimum Wage bill gets a filibuster. I'd love to hear the argument about how the cost of living has gone up 25% in 10 years... and in 10 years, we still haven't raised the Min Wage even a little. How does that help me? And, not just that... I'm, like, Middle Class. I have friends with decent paying jobs. I'm lucky to be in the position I'm in. What about really poor people? Gah... I don't even want to think about it... but I do, because I should. I should.
My way of life... Our way of life... is less because of this president. I lucked out. I didn't loose anyone on 9/11 even though most of my family is in New York. I don't have any brothers or sisters dead in Iraq. My friend didn't die in New Orleans (though, not seeing him for a week after it happened, online, did have me really worried). Getting paid Min Wage sucks, but at least I can eat. Some can't even say that.
You might enjoy this... Mark Twain said it: "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it." I second that. Right now, our government doesn't deserve shit from us. Screw them. We're supposed to be in charge... we're supposed to elect people who will give our views voice. We (give or take 80% of the population) don't have those people... or, if we do, those people aren't loud enough.
It's Memorial Day weekend. Think about your country this weekend. Think about what you want it to stand for. It might not be what I want it to stand for, but that's the beauty of having a difference of opinion. Just ask yourself this:
Does my country stand for what I stand for?
I am Huntermun, and I approved this message.
See you in the Future.

To much loyalty over qualifications. To much corruption. To many gay Republicans (not that there's anything wrong with that) who are having sex with under-age interns (which there is something very, very wrong with). To much money being made by Senators voting in favor of corporations to make themselves money (A.K.A.: War for Oil.).
Maybe, with next president, we'll get the U.S. back. I miss it. I miss what we stood for. I miss being not just free... but well-off... healthy, well schooled, with people who voted like we wanted.
I miss having what the U.S. is supposed to stand for. I miss it a lot.
I agree with just about everything you've said.
I only voted once so far in my life and that was against Bush, because I really didn't want him in office. Clinton was my favorite President; I felt he did a good job, he gave off this "vibe" that made me comfortable with him in office. I just wish he wouldn't have cheated on his wife or ended his Presidency with everyone focused on that.
Bush doesn't speak for me. I really don't like him and if it was him stuck in that hell of sand, he would get the troops out of there. But no, he sits in his cozy office practicing how to properly enunciate.
Iraq doesn't want to be taken over by our government. Their police are incompetent and always have been and it's a shame there are so many people over there who would rather blow things up than solve problems.
I agree with your statement that Bush is acting like a dictator. Republicans don't give a shit about the poor.
Gas prices are getting absurd. I don't drive anymore, but I still cringe when I see the prices here in NY.
If I were still living at home, my rate of pay wouldn't increase as gas goes up. With a 2 year degree and after 2 years of working, I was at $7.50 an hour. That wasn't enough to get a place on my own, but enough that I could have all of my bills paid - but living at home.
The thing that angers me most about the raise in minimum wage in PA is that under my past employer, everyone else in the state would be raised up to my salary level, degree or no degree. Oh boy, I make 25 cents more an hour than someone who didn't go to college.
It was a small, family-run company so my only choice would have been to move on anyways.
I don't feel that the USA stands for what I stand for, speaking as a woman.
We didn't always have the right to vote.
Women still make on average, less per hour than a man.
We've never had a female President.
Everywhere I look, women are encouraged to be sexual objects. There are too many tv shows, magazines, films, music videos and sports events (football cheerleaders, import car shows, wrestling "ring girls", WWE Divas) where women are just there to show T&A, shake it and contribute nothing to society.
All men are created equal? White men still discriminate against other races and working women are still expected to cook, clean, raise the children (if any) and tend to the home.
Also, our government doesn't give a shit about healthcare for all. I can't afford $200 a month for health insurance "just in case". I can't get on welfare because there are too many people already on it in PA. I can't get any low income assistance because I don't have any children. (I thought that I was making a good decision in NOT spawning!)
If Hillary is indeed running for President, I think I'll vote for her. I'll need to research into her compaign promises more and actually try to learn more about her goals, but I think she can offer more to the USA than Bush currently thinks he is doing.

It's a common thought that raising it only benefits Lower Class citizens as it brings them a higher hourly wage... but the truth of the matter is that is benefits the economy, expanding upward.
The more people like myself get paid (and I say that only because I get paid Min Wage, not because I think I'm a Low Class citizen), the more we spend. The more we spend, the more companies make. The more we spend, the more the government makes. The more we make, the more you make, because if you didn't, all of you would revolt.
An increase of just over $2 for me, might be the same for you, or it might be more. Raising hourly wage doesn't just make us pay $50 for a Pepsi instead of 50¢ (err, well... 65¢ now, but you get the idea). It improves the economy by encouraging spending, which makes our economy flourish.
Ask any economist worth their salt, and they'll tell you the same thing. Raising the Min Wage doesn't make the Lower Class become Middle Class... it makes allows the Lower Class to have more money, to be able to take care of themselves, get a better education, better health care, etc... and works its way up the chain, affecting everyone.
Just letting you know.
On the point of woman's rights... I honestly don't know on that one. It sounds like you've had an experience with it, and I don't know what to say about that. I see woman as different, but equal, if you catch my meaning... the whole "there's a double standard because there are two standards and there should be" and all that.
Woman are different than men, but no less equal... and to not have job opportunities because of gender, or to be ooglied because you are female, is totally not cool. I'd have no problem with a female president, or a female anything, really... but I also understand it's a long time in coming, and I wont be voting for any one person just because of one thing about them... be them female like Hillary, or black like Obama.
I hope Hillary does well... but she's got a presence about her I think needs to be worked on. There's something about the way she stands, walks, and talks which screams "last decade's politician"... like she's ready with the sugar talk and empty promises of those who have come before... not saying she is, she just... talks like it... or maybe that's me.
In any event, thanks for commenting. I, as stated before, am probably going to be voting for John Edwards, unless something unforeseen happens. I'd recommend just giving him a look... lots of videos of him speaking for you to get an idea of not only what he stands for, but what kind of person he is... last time I checked Hillary's site, I couldn't say the same.
See you in the Future.
Kudos on your commentary. It was very interesting to read the state of affairs over the border, as I honestly don't pay attention to any politics whatsoever... I just get frustrated with it all. :./
